Monday, 8th February, 8pm

When i was waiting for my friend at woodlands mrt control station, I saw a blind man trying to

find his way to causeway point with his walking stick. While searching for his route, he knocked

onto signboards after signboards. He reversed and walk the other direction, then walked

straight.

He was walking very carefully, and vividly, making sure he is heading the right direction.

Then, my heart went soft, the urge sets in.

I rushed towards him, held his arm and asked: "Where are you heading to? :) "

He then started to tell me that he wants to go to the foodcourt at level 7. The casual conversation

begins, till we settled at the foodcourt.

[ Many people stared at me and him. What's the problem? People just like to stare.

Come on! If
you are going to help, help! Staring does not get you anywhere! ]

He: " I had no choice but to eat outside everyday, I can't see to cook"

Me: "Nobody in the house to cook for you?"

He: "nope, no volunteers"

I almost teared when i heard the story about his life, something so unexpected. But before he

begin, he said: "I'd rather be deaf and mute, but not blind. Because I can't see everything"

I went silent.

His story begins: " I became blind after i served NS. I started working for a company and they

trained me to be an engineer. After one fine day after work, I came home at 1am and i was

having a high fever. I was too weak to do anything, I laid on my bed, turned on the fan and slept

immediately. The next day when I woke up, wow! I can't see! "

(he was really very surprised by what happened; something so sudden and unexpected)

I replied: "why didn't you go to the doctors' then?" ( I was so stupid to ask this question )

He replied: "it was too late, 1 am, no clinics were opened and I can't seek help from anyone"

"since then i worked for one of the Associations for the blind, but they paid me only $35 per

month! I can't even feed myself well. I worked for 2 years and left. Now i earn a living by selling

cookies door-to-door. "

" I can't work as an engineer now even though i learnt everything. haha i think i would have

burst the wires if i were to connect the wires wrongly"

And then i listened and listened, my heart sank in.... I left halfway cos i have to meet my friend.

Before I left I said something that I really mean it: "Do take care okay :) "

He replied sadly: "okay"

I hope that he found a kind soul to bring him back home.

If the world is filled with kind souls everywhere, I believe the world would have been a better

place. If the trouble-makers could make better use of their time, the world will definitely be

more than perfect.

P.S Future/current doctors: PLEASE HAVE A 24 HOUR CLINIC.

A slight sickness can make someone regret for a lifetime!
